What is DA?

Hello followers,

So I was hanging out with :icondrewgreen: last night and we got to talking about DeviantART and how people use the site. We also talked about how I haven't been as active as I used to be and maybe good ways for me to get back into this place again.

First a little background. When I first started my DA in 2004 I was living in West Palm FL, on my own for the first time, I didn't know anybody so DA was my only real human contact. I made a lot of friends and really started getting into a webcomic that I was working on at the time. At a certain point in 2005 I decided to quit my job, sell my car, move back in with my parents so I could go back to school. 2 years at community college and then 3 at Ringling College of Art and Design later I'm now working in Atlanta GA as an assistant designer for Carter's INC in the boy's pajamas department. In all that time DA really went to the back burner.

You'll hopefully notice that I've been updated my gallery and responding to messages, but I feel like I'm still missing out on the community as a whole. I'm beginning to notice that different communities have different cultures and to me DA is no exception.

So I'm asking you patient people, what is DA about? What do you look for when you interact with an artist? Are long journal post something that you would read? Would you want to see descriptions of the project ideas I have buzzing around in my head? Do you like polls?

What is DA to you?

Well of course. If you're an open deviant and nice to people, you'll make plenty of friends.

I'm 15, so dA for me is mostly me drawing and getting feedback and criticism to improve, and looking at other people's art to pick up tips and get better. But i started my dA account so i could look at the comics on here. lulz.

I always liked how you could see all kinds of work here on DA and that really helps with improvement. Just seeing what can be done really expands your mind.

So do you feel like you started out as a viewer of content and then transitioned into a creator of content?

For me, Deviant Art is a page where I can upload some of my art I decide so people can encourage me and give me hints to be a better artist, also I can do the same, and ALSO I can have contact and critiques from more professional artist than me... ^^.

Also, mostly these recent years, DA has been for me a place where I can enjoy with many friends I have made here, the same passion I have for draws... and for other things and fandom. So I really love being here, because I can share art, I can make art at the same time with many friends making collabs and that, and I can enjoy talking with them and grow each time in order to be a better artist =).

That's DA for me ^^.

As for your questions... I would love to read your ideas and all. I can read long journals. I love polls, I always vote on polls :giggle: heh...

And, for last, in my opinion... you and *Freakshow6 are people that inspire me... You both are so unique drawing... For me, you're professional artist :3.
